Map of Angkor temples, roads, and
surrounding villages
Among hundreds of Khmer temples built during Angkor period (9th -
13th century), Angkor Wat, built in 12th
century during the reign of King Suryavarman II (1112-1150) is the all-time visited temple.
The ruins scatter in an area
of more than
400 square kilometers in Northwestern Cambodia but the ones that are in
good shape are in the central area (13 km wide and 24 km long just to the north of Siem Reap
town) and they are under the Angkor conservation program assisted by the international organizations.
Hundreds of others that are out of reach of the program are left to the mercy of the
forest.
